Douglas & Friends Foundation, Inc. knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. One thing we have learned, is that no one is an island. But, on the little island of Jamaica, there are students from all walks of life who just need a helping hand.
We often see where scholarships and the like go toward those who can [afford to] write the best essay or know the right people, however, if you don’t have electricity at home, or otherwise struggle to procure the most basic of needs, chances are, you don’t even have the time to avail yourself of these opportunities. This is where Douglas & Friends Foundation (DFF) comes in.
Our aim is to specifically target the students who show the scholastic aptitude, and drive necessary for success, but may not have the resources to realize the opportunities they need. To that end, we apply the Pareto Principle, otherwise known as the 80/20 rule. We aim to expend 80% of our efforts on the 20% of students not being served. These students, through sheer will, overcome the extremes of poverty, and are somehow still able to maintain academic excellence.
To this end, we have partnered with educational professionals in several schools in Jamaica, who are able to identify students based on our criteria, and help them obtain the needed support.
Education is the key that unlocks a world of opportunities. Let us join hands and illuminate the path for impoverished students, empowering them to rise above their circumstances and reach for the stars.
